216 Sep 9, 2009 England Hi all, me again. I've been thinking about semi-hollows. But which of the two would you say is 'better' - more versatile? The Epiphone ES335 or Casino? I know that the 335 has humbuckers and the Casino has P90S, but not a lot else. Those of you who have read my other threads will know that i like to play Claptony blues and Led Zep/Stones/Beatles rock, and sometimes jazz but hardly at all. I know that the Casino will do the job for Bealtes, and the 335 for Cream era Clapton. I also hear, from this very forum, that the 335s are heavy. How can this be? They're semi hollow! So, facts and opinions please! Cheers. The Teleist , Sep 22, 2009 The Teleist , Sep 22, 2009 #1 - Sep 22, 2009 #2

2,187 Aug 14, 2009 Katy, TX I have an Epi Sheraton II and yes that thing is very heavy, esp for a 'semi-hollow body'. It has a solid block down the middle of it which is what adds the weight and sustain. I have used it for rock, funk and jazz and it does it all well. You will definitely want a wider strap, that's for sure. The Dot is a less frilly SII, and I can tell you the quality of my MIK S2 is top notch. Great guitar that I never regretted having. - humbucker - smooth to aggressive
- full hollow - feedback
- P90 - snarly

10,381 Jun 10, 2003 White Mountains No secret here I love my Epiphones. I think of The Korean Factory as 'Gibson - Seoul'. With whatever You go with You're gonna be happy. Since I got my Emperor Regent with the floating pickup I don't even bother looking at D-Angelico's or L-5's. Eventually if and when the economy bounces back I'd like to add a Broadway and the discontinued Zephyr Blues - all in the Antique Sunburst - and here's the real killer - the nail in the coffin - all three combined will still run me almost 00 less than a beat ES-175 with a plethora of issues. 1,510 Oct 10, 2006 England I used to have a Korean dot about 10 years ago. I wish I never sold it as now I want one again, however, I had a chinese epi sg custom and found the neck to be really weak, and worry about the quality of the current dots. Any guys here know how good the new chinese ones are compared to the korean ones? Like you The Teleist I have been comparing these 2 guitars and also came accross the Hagstrom viking. There are humbucker and P90 versions of those for a similar price (also made in china). As far as versatility I'd think that the humbucker semi is probably more versatile than the p90 hollow guitars, as you like to play rock also, the feedback may become a problem at higher gains with an all hollow guitar. 216 Sep 9, 2009 England I'll look up hagstrom, thanks for that. My problem is that i have my Hamer, which has humbuckers, and i have m' Squier tele which has p90s, so either way i'll be 'doubling up' on the pickup side o things... And it was 'nearly as heavy as a LP' for the dot appparantly.. The Teleist , Sep 22, 2009 The Teleist , Sep 22, 2009 #6 - Sep 22, 2009 #7

700 Mar 26, 2009 Kerfuffle I have a 97 DOT, adorned with some 1974 T-bobbin Les Paul HBs and a MIJ Lennon Historic Series Casino. The DOT I have had for years, the Casino less than a year. DOT is 'for sure' heavier due to the honker block down the center. The Casino is fairly light, can't speak for the Non-Historic issue Casino. I have no feedback issue with my Casino, all the pups in both guitars are in the 8k range and sound great clean or pushed. Even the Casino totally cranked out not only sings, but no feedback issue. It has Kent Armstrong P-90s in it. And clean they are very vintage and vintage lower output sounding IMO. The Historic Series Casino has a Mahogany Neck, the DOT, a 97 MIK Samick factory has a maple Neck. I would say the DOT with the Maple Neck and block is ringy and chimey as compared to the Casino which is more planky and banjo-ee. The Casino is for sale, the DOT I'll probably keep forever... Rock and blues, DOT. Funk and Jazz Casino, although the Neck PUP on the DOT does Jazzy excellent. YMMV, but there is my 2 cents... NOTE: Totally different Necks, I love the DOT neck, the Casino.. not so much, thus for sale. You need to get both necks in your hands IMO. I tend to like chunky wider necks, the Casino I have is pretty regular profile wise. I have pretty big hands FWIW. Hackguitarist , Sep 22, 2009 Hackguitarist , Sep 22, 2009 #13 - Sep 22, 2009 #14

I'd expect a 335 would be heavier than a Casino since they have the solid block in them. Casinos are generally very light. I was more referring to the way a 335 often seems to be heavier than a strat or tele even when it actually weighs much the same. TG , Sep 22, 2009 TG , Sep 22, 2009 #20

Epiphone Casino vs Epiphone Casino Coupe Guitar ShootoutHelp support these videos through Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/jackfossettSubscribe here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_c...http://www.jackfossett.com/https://www.facebook.com/jackfossettWelcome to this shootout between two great Epiphone guitars: the Standard Casino, and the smaller body Casino Coupe. These guitars are both stock, save for the removed pick guards. The Standard Casino gives you the classic full body size, reminiscent of the British Invasion, and has a deep, open tone, whereas the Coupe gives you a newer small body size more akin to a Les Paul or ES339, and is a bit punchier with a slightly compressed top end. Each guitar is strung with Elixir Nanoweb strings, and I’m plugging into a Fender 59 Bassman Reissue, stereo micd with a Shure SM57 and Blue Encore 100i. I’ve got a Vortex Pedals Grand Reverb on to add some air, and for the overdriven tones I’m using a Keeley Red Dirt, which is in the Tubescreamer realm. I’m plugging in using Sinasoid Slate Cables. Thanks for watching and be sure to subscribe for more music and demos!
